OUTCAST FILMS ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF
SEEING RED

A NEW FILM BY SU FRIEDRICH

Outcast Films is pleased to announce the release of SEEING RED (27 minutes, Color, 2005, Video) a new film by veteran avant-garde filmmaker Su Friedrich. SEEING RED is both a personal and universal exploration that uses visual, verbal and musical components to challenge our notions of categorizations and definitions. Friedrich masterfully weaves together various elements that run parallel, overlap, diverge, and in other ways, give voice to the notion that a color, a melody, or a person has multiple characteristics that cannot be grasped by, or understood within, a simple framework.

From the onset of her career in the late 1970’s, Friedrich has been a leading figure in avant-garde filmmaking and a pivotal force in the establishment of Queer Cinema. Friedrich’s films are multi-lingual, moving fluidly between the personal and the political, from autobiographical films about family to the investigation of society’s notions of sexual identity.

Newly launched Outcast Films is a distribution company dedicated to the fair and equal representation of media made by and concerning the diverse Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community. Outreaching to thousands of educators, activists, policy makers and breakers, media arts institutions, and individuals, Outcast Films helps to foster critical discussions around social justice issues, as well as providing the public with a resource of cutting edge films and videos created by and impacting the LGBT community.

Other works available through Outcast Films include Karen Everett’s WOMEN IN LOVE, a sexually charged story about love and friendship, Jim DeSeve's TYING THE KNOT, the highly acclaimed documentary on same-sex marriage, and PILLS PROFITS PROTEST: CHRONICLE OF THE GLOBAL AIDS MOVEMENT, a fascinating portrait of the changing face of AIDS politics and activism worldwide.
